The 4th Cross-Currents Forum will bring together an international group of scholars to discuss and question the ways that choice, chance, and circumstance have contributed to intra-Asian mobility in the past and present. The goal of the Forum is to complicate current theoretical understandings of globalization and diaspora (including both displacement and homecomings) and to consider the diverse events and forces that have influenced the movement of people individuals, families, professional groups, and military personnel, among others. Research themes may include, but are not limited to: shipwrecks, trade/commerce and port cities, war, marriage, missionary work, and labor migration.
