Yilu Villa 逸庐, which was owned by a food industry tycoon’s family from 1921 to 2018, is an elegant lilong house with magnificent decoration, as seen here over its entrance. Although the villa had already been registered as historically significant, it was slated to be demolished in 2015. The tycoon’s descendants did not want to move, but as the underdogs facing a new generation of developers eager for profit, they had no choice.
