Shambhala and the Prague Thangka: The Myth’s Visual Representation

Image 20: Enemies Flee to Their Stronghold

The enemy commander is in a palace surrounded by his soldiers in dark blue uniforms; his face is black and his armor is not visible, but his clothes resemble those of Raudracakrin. This is the closing scene, which is related to the scene where Raudracakrin kills the enemy commander with a lance (image 18). It is a visual depiction of the victorious struggle between Buddhists and their religious enemies (whether these are Muslims or only generic “heretics” is not important). One interesting detail is that two enemy warriors pictured top right are dipping their lances (or are mixing something) in a cauldron heated by flames.
