Shambhala and the Prague Thangka: The Myth’s Visual Representation

Image 12: Raudracakrin in a War Chariot

Raudracakrin appears with a red face, a short sword in his right hand, and a rounded shield in the other. An enemy is kneeling in front of him with his hands clasped together pleading for mercy. The defeated enemy is bareheaded, and the color of his skin is dark brown to black, which could suggest that he is a Muslim. The motif of a dark color in enemy commanders is repeated in the scenes in images 14, 17, and 18.
