Curtains in Geumho

Resurrection City: The Scale of Seoul's Urban Renewal Process

Curtains in Geumho

Redevelopers in Seoul often cover up urban-renewal zones behind a green striped curtain held up by metal bars. One such temporary fence is shown going up around a row of abandoned brick apartment buildings in the Geumho neighborhood of Seoul. It was erected not to keep people out but to hide the renewal process from view. The fence sufficiently fends off most curious onlookers, but others easily find a hole to crawl through.
