Photograph 6. A Memorial Stone Oboo
This memorial oboo made from a single stone is worshipped by the Chergel lineage of the Sudur clan among the Dahur people. Written in both Chinese and Manchu, the inscriptions read: “Memorial stone of the Chergel lineage of the Dahur’s Sudur clan.” Re-erected in 1998, after being destroyed by the Japanese in 1942, the Sudur Oboo aims to memorialize the clan’s eminent ancestors who reached the Hulun Buir grasslands in the mid-eighteenth century.
