Wildlife sellers in Mong La’s central market
What makes headlines in the international press are the wildlife sellers in one corner of the market. Next to flower arrangements sold to luxury hotels and casinos, tiger and leopard skins and paws, as well as many other animal parts, are on display. In addition, various kinds of bush meat are on offer. While the tiger skins and paws may be fake, as Alessandro and Martin learned from different sources, a recent report by Vincent Nijman and Chris Shepard (2015) suggests that trade in tigers and other wild cats is, in fact, growing.
