Mosque and chorten (stupa) side by side in Langmusi

Sichuan, 2010

The town of Langmusi that borders Gansu and Sichuan Provinces includes Tibetans, Hui, and Han. Tibetan Buddhists have had a contentious history with Muslims, particularly as both faiths have become more prominent in the public sphere of the borderland town. Still, Hui hotel owners and bus line operators serve Tibetans, and monks frequent halal restaurants.
