A contrast between the old and the new in Xiancun

In the early days of China’s economic reform decades ago, villagers in Xiancun started to turn their farmland and old village homes into mid-rise apartment buildings. Many of those apartments were then leased to migrant workers, who flooded the city in search of work. By now, not surprisingly, many of the original villagers who own these apartment buildings have become relatively well off.
